Our team at Ladder Labor has extensive experience in the roofing industry, and we want to help you keep your roof in the best condition. Even if you take excellent care of your roof, however, sooner or later, you will need to replace it. In this article, we will go over a few ways to tell when it’s time to get your roof replaced.

How to Tell When It’s Time for a Roof Replacement

  • Consider Your Roof’s Age- The first way to determine whether you need a roof replacement is to simply consider the age of your current roof. Roofing materials have a maximum lifespan, and if your roof is nearing that upper age limit, we encourage you to get it replaced sooner rather than later. Most shingle roofs have a maximum lifespan of 20 years, while metal roofing can last between 30 and 50 years.
  • Check for Water Damage- Another thing you can do to figure out whether you need a roof replacement is to check your attic and upper stories for signs of water damage. If you see water stains, peeling paint, rooting wood, or mold in these areas, it means there’s a leak in your roof, and we encourage you to get your roof replaced as soon as possible.
  • Look at Your Heating and Cooling Bills- A third way to tell if you need a roof replacement is to look at your energy bills from the last few years. If your energy bills have gone up, it could mean that your roof’s insulation is failing, causing your home to fall victim to passive heat transfer. In addition, if you’ve found it harder to maintain a comfortable temperature, you probably have an insulation problem, and the roof is a likely culprit.
